The name was borrowed from Islam, and is a name related to Nashera or Nasara, a name derived from the title "Nasrallah", or "Messenger of God". It is therefore a name that is known across the world. Another interesting detail of the name is that it was given to the first son of a Muslim family.

Ibrahim the slave is not only famous for his name, but his life has been the subject of great affection. When the son was born, the husband went out with the family to search for his own daughter, and brought her back with him to the house.

She was named "Wasseh"Lazarus", meaning that she was given a new lease on life. The name was then passed down from generation to generation and is still used today by a son, who is attempting to give his daughter a similar name. He is attempting to take away any perception that slaves were branded with a stigma.

Many scholars believe that the name was being used to refer to Wasseh, and also for some other significance. It is possible that Wasseh's older sister, 'Aishah, was the true mother of Lazarus. However, there is no evidence to support the theory, and Ibrahim the slave is very popular among Muslims.
